The Romans try to isolate the Gauls from the rest of the world by building a stockade around their village.Our friends Asterix and Obelix make a bet to the romans that they get past through their baricade and get all the local specialities from the surrounding places and give their prefect a feast.Our friends also meet many difficulties like a Gaulish traitor and theives.This is the very first book in which Obelix's dog Dogmatix is introduced.

Asterix the gladiator

The prefect of Gaul wants to give Julius Caesar a present, so he tells his men to capture a Gaul.The Romans capture Cacofonix the bard and send him away to Rome.By the time the Gauls realise that he is missing,it was too late.So our friends Asterix and Obelix board a Phoenician merchant ship and went to Rome.Meanwhile Caesar is not pleased with his gift so he decides to throw him to the lions.Our friends sign up as gladiators teach their new gladiator friends some new techniques during their training and then they save their bard.
And this is the first book in which Obelix starts his popular comment "These Romans are crazy"

The village druid Getafix has to leave for the forest of carnutes for the annual druid conference. Asterix druid Getafix has to leave for the forest of carnutes for the annual druid conference. Asterix and Obelix are worried about their druid's safety so they accompany them.The Gauls wait outside the forest as only druids are allowed inside.The druids there perform amazing feats and is onlooked by all the druids and unknown to them also by a batch of goths who plan on kidnapping the best druid and make himhelp them with the invasion of rome.Our friends wait and wait but Getafix is nowhere in sight, and so they go inside the forest and find a visigoth helmet.So our friends leave for the land of the goths.They wait until they find their disguise and then surrender themselves to their so that they can meet Getafix again.Getafix is asked by a interperter on behalf of the chief can he help them or not.Getafix says no,but interperter for his own safety says yes to the chief. Unknown to the interperter the druid speaks gothic fluently and so reveals the plot to the gothic chief who throws everyone in prison and plans to kill them the next day. Meanwhile Getafix prepares the magic potion on pretext of a soup as his last wish. He gives this to the interperter who overthrows the present chief on the day of punishment.The Gauls keep on giving potion to every goth and motivates the to become the chief.This causes complete confusion and so causes confusion among the Goths which discourages them to invade Rome.Finaly the story ends with a blue sky under which a banquet is held.

All Gaul is at peace.

Wait did I say all of Gaul, looks like the druid had just broken his golden sickle, without which he cannot attend the annual druid conference .So he sends our heroes Asterix and Obelix to get him a new sickle . As our friends proceed to luteia they find the cost of sickles is above their budget and the best sickle maker,metallgurix is also missing.The Gauls smell a plot and so unfolds this another brilliant story by Gosciny and Uderzo.

Asterix the gaul.

The very first book written by Goscinny and Uderzo in the Asterix series is this book.The centurion of the neighbouring Roman camp is very curious about the Gaul's superhuman strenght,so he sends a spy to find out.Then after the spy returns, the centurion kidnaps the druid to learn the secret recipe of the magic potion.Asterix is worried that getafix has not returned and so he finds out that the druid is kidnapped.So,he infiltrates the Roman camp and surrenders himself.This is followed by a very hairy story!.

julius ceasar-asterix

Julius Ceasar,The ruler of the roman empire can be often seen here in our hero's adventures,trying to foil their plans.He is always seen wearing his laurel wreath.This old fellow also enjoys going to the circus maximus to see the gladiators and his old friends with the lions.

cacofonix

Cacofonix, the bard and school master of this village is a very gifted person who can bring down rain whenever he wants by his unique singing.He always wants to sing a farewell or all the best song but his friends control him with more politer measures such as cracking his head with an anvil or tieing him up.Aah! such friendship can never be seen!

vitalstatistix

Vitalstatistix,the chief of the indomitable gauls.He always moves around on his shield with two shield bearers.He is a plump gaul and a fearless leader with no fear except that the sky may fall on his head. The shield he stands on is the very own shield of Vercingetorix, the chief of entire gaul(whom ceaser had recently conquered).

getafix

Getafix,the druid of the indomitable gauls is the brewer of the magic potion which gives our friends the superhuman strength to overpower ceaser's men.He is constantly busy collecting mistletoe and also winning the druid of the year award in the forest of the carnutes.He also has many more tricks up his sleeve than brewing magic potion.

Obelix

He is second hero of this series.He is a menhir delivery man and a person who accepts that he is well built but not fat.Because Obelix fell inside a cauldron of magic potion when he was a baby he has the permanent effect of the magic potion.He always longs to drink some magic potion to just find the taste of it.There is no problem for him as long as he has his friend Asterix, his dog Dogmtix and have lots of wild boar near by.

Asterix, the hero of this series is a shrewd and cunning little warrior.He and his friend Obelix always volounteer on dangerous missions.Asterix is a bachelor and thought by the village people to be the most favourite person of their druid.He also likes to go wild-boar and legionary hunting.
